Bridging Healthcare & AI

MedHack: Frontiers brings clinicians, builders and optimists into the same room for one intense weekend of problem-solving at the cutting edge of medical innovation. With professionals from medicine, data science, and AI development all under one roof, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible in healthcare.

The goal is simple yet ambitious: leverage cutting-edge technology to solve pressing real-world healthcare challenges.

By working closely with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and industry mentors, participants will create AI-driven solutions that tackle high-impact healthcare challenges. We encourage everyone to participate in both tracts—code your solution in the Small Tract and pitch your ideas in the Big Tract for the complete experience. Whether you're new to AI or a seasoned expert, this hackathon is your chance to contribute to the future of healthcare innovation.

Two Tracts, One Mission: Do Both!

We encourage all participants to take on both tracts for the full experience—code a solution and pitch your ideas.

Small Tract

Small Tract (Coding)

Perfect for those who want to dive into hands-on AI development. You'll receive continuous patient vitals data—such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation—from simulated patients. Your task? Build an AI model that can monitor these vitals in real-time and alert healthcare staff when something looks abnormal. Whether you're new to AI or experienced in data science, our workshops and mentors will support you in creating a working solution.

Join Small Tract
Large Tract

Big Tract (Pitching)

Ready to tackle real-world healthcare challenges? You'll get access to real, de-identified Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data and work closely with healthcare mentors. Through interviews and guided discussions, you'll identify critical bottlenecks in the healthcare system and develop an AI-driven solution. Your mission: understand the problem, build a compelling demo, and pitch your innovative idea to a panel of expert judges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a different question and can't find the answer you're looking for? Reach out to our support team by sending us an email (hi@mlai.au) and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Do I need prior experience in AI or healthcare?
Not at all! The Small Tract (Coding) is designed for all skill levels, from newcomers to experienced developers. Plus, mentors and workshops will get you up to speed.
Can I form a team beforehand?
Absolutely. We encourage participants to pre-form teams at the team formation events. Solo attendees can also join teams on the first day of the hackathon.
Is the data real and safe to use?
Yes, all real data is fully de-identified and complies with strict privacy regulations. For the Small Tract (Coding), simulated data ensures a safe learning environment.
Are there prizes?
Yes, winning teams (decided at the Pitch Night) will receive exciting prizes. More details to be announced!
Will there be food and drinks?
Yes, meals and refreshments will be provided during the main hack day and optional hacking days.
How many people on a team?
Teams can be a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 6 members. We encourage participants to form teams of 5-6 unless you're mega geniuses.
Can one of my team members or I join online?
There isn’t an online component for this hackathon and the event won’t be live streamed or broadcast. We recommend you attend in person as it’s a lot more fun that way. However, if you can’t make the event in person, as long as you have a team member that CAN attend in person and register your team, you can participate online as long as everybody on your team has a ticket.
Do I need to show up for both days?
The first day, Saturday 21st Feb 2026, is mandatory for registration and orientation. Sunday 22nd Feb is optional but we've reserved a space for you and your team and will be providing extra guidance, food, drink and activities to help teams perform.
How do you select the winners?
For the Small Tract (Coding), the team that has the highest amount of points at the end of the competition will be declared the winners. For the Big Tract (Pitching), teams will submit a short video pitch which will be assessed by a team of judges. The most promising teams will be selected to pitch at the Pitch Night on 4th March 2026, where the final winners will be selected.
What's the Pitch Night?
For the teams in the Big Tract (Pitching) that make it through the semi-finals, we'll invite you to pitch your awesome solutions to a panel of judges and investors and a huge crowd of people on 4th March 2026 (doors open 6pm)! This is an essential part of being a founder and we'll coach you through the process and teach you how to pitch if you don't know already.
What are the Team Formation Events?
It can really suck when you join a hackathon, but your team members ghost or you just don't click. On the other hand, if you do click and work together to create something meaningful that you're proud of, that's magic. Our team formation event is on Sunday 15th Feb 2026 (evening) at Stone & Chalk in Melbourne CBD — come along to meet potential teammates and form tight-knit teams before the hack.
